“AMEN SONGS”: Yevarechecha Hashem MiTziyon
January 22, 2025
Cantor Eyal Bitton highlights a song that connects with this year’s Congregation Neveh Shalom theme, “Amen – Be a Blessing.”
“Yevarechecha Hashem MiTzion” is a blessing drawn from Psalm 128:5, wishing for God’s blessings to come from Zion. In the Psalmist’s era, Zion was more than a geographic location—it was the spiritual center of the Jewish people, the place where God’s presence was most profoundly felt. Zion symbolized hope, unity, and the divine covenant, reminding the Jewish people of their connection to God and their mission in the world.
For us today, Zion continues to hold this dual significance. Spiritually, it remains the source of our deepest prayers and blessings. Nationally, it is the homeland of the Jewish people and the eternal symbol of our identity. The song reminds us that to bless others, we must remain rooted in Zion, both as a place and as an idea. By singing these words, we reaffirm our shared commitment to carry forward the values of Zion—faith, unity, and a dedication to being a blessing in the world.
In Parashat Vaera, God reveals His name and promises to free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. This moment underscores God’s unwavering commitment to His people and His role as the ultimate source of liberation and blessing. “Yevarechecha Hashem MiTzion” serves as a musical expression of this divine promise, emphasizing that all blessings flow from Zion, the center of our faith. Singing this song is not just an act of worship—it is a way to reaffirm our trust in God’s covenant and His support, both in ancient times and today. It reminds us that, like the Israelites, we can find hope and strength in God’s promises, which endure through every generation.
Yevarechecha
may you share the prosperity of Jerusalem
all the days of your life,
Yevarechecha Hashem miTziyon
