“AMEN SONGS”: Forever and Ever, Amen (Randy Travis)
July 30, 2025
Rabbi Cantor Eyal Bitton highlights a song that connects with this year’s Congregation Neveh Shalom theme, “Amen – Be a Blessing.”
Randy Travis’s “Forever and Ever, Amen” is a heartfelt country ballad that speaks of enduring love, commitment, and faithfulness. With its reassuring refrain—“I’m gonna love you forever and ever, forever and ever, amen”—the song becomes more than just a declaration of romantic love. It reflects the kind of loyalty and steadfastness that define deep, meaningful relationships. As part of our theme, “Amen – Be a Blessing,” this song reminds us that saying “amen” can also be an affirmation of lasting devotion—to one another, to our values, and to the people and principles we hold dear.
Parashat Devarim opens the book of Deuteronomy with Moses addressing the Israelites before they enter the Promised Land. He recalls their journey and expresses his unwavering commitment to guiding and blessing them—even as he prepares to say goodbye. Moses’ words are filled with love and concern, and they reflect the enduring bond between leader and people. In a sense, Moses is offering his own “forever and ever, amen,” passing on wisdom and blessings that will last beyond his lifetime. The parasha teaches us that our legacy lies in the relationships we build and the truths we hold fast.
“Forever and Ever, Amen” captures the beauty of constancy in a world of change. As we begin the final book of the Torah and look toward the High Holiday season, we are called to reaffirm our deepest commitments—with honesty, humility, and love. To bless someone with your enduring presence, your faithfulness, and your heart is no small thing. As this song reminds us, saying “amen” is not just about agreement—it’s about devotion that stands the test of time.
