BITTON’S BEST OF THE WEEK

August 15, 2024

Cantor Eyal Bitton curates top podcasts, articles, and videos of the week, focusing on Israel, Jewish identity, and Jewish pride.

1. They Know Anti-Zionism is Antisemitism

In my latest podcast episode, I cite the recent pro-Palestinian protest at a London production of “Fiddler on the Roof” and the vandalizing of Anne Frank’s statue in Amsterdam to illustrate the notion that pro-Palestinian protestors themselves often understand that anti-Zionism is antisemitism. I show a handful of examples of pro-Palestinian activists proving this idea in their own words or actions.

2. The Benjamin Anthony Show

The IDF Returns to Khan Yunis, Egypt Should Absorb the Gazans, Iranian Plans to Attack Israel While Cozying Up to Russia

This episode is absolutely fascinating for anyone interested in examining strategies to maintain Israel’s defense in light of October 7 and events arising since the attack. What I found most interesting was that both individuals in this episode agree that the concept of deterrence against Jihadi entities, a concept championed by many in the Israeli defense establishment and in the Israeli media, has been proven to be a fallacy.

Benjamin Anthony is the Co-Founder & CEO of The MirYam Institute, “The Premier International Forum For Israel Focused Discussion, Dialogue & Debate.” He is joined by Yaakov Lappin, in-house analyst at The MirYam Institute, and they discuss how to best deal with Gaza on “the day after”, how to address the threat from Iran and Hezbollah, and much more.

They also talk about the unrest currently sweeping the streets of Britain.

3. Call Me Back – with Dan Senor

Hostage Deal? Iran Attack? And Tisha B’Av

Dan Senor is joined by Haviv Rettig Gur and Nadav Eyal in an extremely poignant discussion about Iran’s expected response to Israel. Is waiting a good idea? How do Israelis feel? Gur is a senior political analyst for The Times of Israel, and Eyal is a columnist for Yediot Achronot.

Amid concerns of a potential Iran/Hezbollah attack and international criticism of an IDF operation in Gaza City, significant progress has been made in hostage negotiations. Last Thursday, the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar issued a joint statement declaring that a framework for a hostage deal was nearly finalized, urging Israel and Hamas to complete the agreement without further delay. Shortly after, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israel would send its team to the now scheduled August 15th negotiations, with Hamas also initially agreeing to participate. However, Hamas has since reversed its decision, which some sources suggest may be a last-minute negotiating tactic. Despite the uncertainty, the rapid developments suggest this round of talks may differ from previous ones.

4. Israeli Ambassador to the UN: “Jerusalem Will Never Fall Again!”

Israel’s UN Ambassador, Gilad Erdan, delivers a resolute speech to the UN Security Council on Tisha B’Av, condemning the UN’s bias and failure to condemn Hamas for the October 7th massacre. Erdan criticizes the Council for amplifying Hamas’s lies, especially after the Al Ahli Hospital incident, and warns of the real threat from Iran. Proudly representing Israel, he urges the international community to condemn terrorist organizations and stand with Israel in its fight for justice.
