"By
a brilliant young composer obviously
destined for future great achievements..."
This
musical tribute was written because, like Moses, King stood
on the mountaintop and looked over - and he saw "the
promised land." It was written because the African-American
slaves looked to Moses and the Hebrews for hope and inspiration,
as reflected in their traditional spirituals.
It was written because both the African-Americans and the
Jewish people experienced hatred, because both experienced
slavery, and because both held on to an undying hope for deliverance.
It was written because, despite being separated by time, distance,
and religion, both found heroes who led historic and noble
struggles for a just cause.
This is the story of 2 nations, 2 heroes, and 1 cause:
FREEDOM.
